Step Into Spring with the 21-Day Anti-Inflammatory Challenge with SHAPE ReClaimed.
“Some Old Fashioned Things Like Fresh Air and Sunshine Are Hard To Beat” ~ Laura Ingalls Wilder
Finally. Spring is here. Even though I am sitting in Northeast Ohio, and the snow is flying, there are signs of Spring. My tulips and daffodils are sprouting. The birds are chirping. In my neck of the woods, the weather is a little bipolar! But with the turn of the calendar to March, we start thinking of sunny, warm days, and being able to get out of the house. This is the time of year that God renews the Earth. The trees get leaves, the grass turns green, and the scent of flowers is everywhere. It is fitting that Easter falls in the Spring, when God renewed His place in Heaven and saved us all.
In Ohio, Spring means the opening of farmer’s markets. The farmer’s markets are great for fresh veggies and fruits. Close to us is a large Amish community. Our family loves going down to their markets in the Spring. We are so blessed to live close to the largest Amish community in the United States. The Amish sell the best herbs, plants and vegetables. The best part is we know what we are buying does not have any pesticides on their produce, or growth hormones in the meat they sell.
SPRING IS A GREAT TIME TO FORAGE FOR YOUR FOOD!
If you like a little adventure, it is a joy to forage for foods, plants and herbs that grow naturally. We love to forage for mushrooms and plants that we can freeze, dry, make into tinctures or teas, or use fresh in our home cooked meals. Many of our local farms also have these great edibles available if you are not into doing the work yourself. Also, it is a great time to find your nearest bee keeper and get some great local raw honey!
CHANGING OUR MINDSET TO IMPROVE OUR HEALTH.
During the winter months, especially during the holiday season, we tend to migrate to “comfort foods”. We are not as active in the winter months, and tend to hibernate from November until March, when we stay indoors and consume rich, sugar-filled foods. Overtime, these foods can wreak havoc on our bodies, increasing inflammation and adding on toxic fat. So how do we get back into shape and reduce disease producing inflammation in our bodies. If you are like me, you have tried every diet under the sun. We had the Cabbage Diet, The Grapefruit Diet, Keto Diet Plans, Weight Watchers, drinking meal replacement shakes. (Yes, I am showing my age)! Some of these may have helped you lose a few pounds, but the minute you stop these diets, the weight comes back. Diets like these actually cause MORE Inflammation in our bodies, because our bodies go into survival mode. Changing the way we look at food and changing our midset is how we can feel better, look better, and be better. To learn more about why diets don’t work, check this out.
